Joe Valenzuela is in his first year as the Director of Bands at Lehman High School. His responsibilities include conducting the Wind Ensemble, preparation for the 2019 Marching Band, as well as leadership of the Lehman cluster. A vocalist and brass specialist, Mr. Valenzuela is a native of Weslaco, Texas. Mr. Valenzuela received the bulk of his musical and academic training at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. He has been a Texas music educator for over 25 years with previous teaching opportunities served at Sharyland High School (TX) from 1989-1990, Donna High School (TX) from 1990-2010, Laredo Alexander High School (TX) from 2010-2016, Weslaco High School (TX) from 2016-2017, and most recently, Simon Middle School (Hays C.I.S.D.) from August, 2018 to December 2018.

Mr. Valenzuela’s concert ensembles have consistently earned superior ratings at the University Interscholastic League Concert & Sight Reading contests. The Alexander Wind Symphony (Varsity) were named the TMEA Region 14 Honor Band every year they were eligible and advanced to the UIL State Marching Band Competition under his direction. The Donna High School Band was also a consistent participant at the UIL State Marching Contest during his tenure there.

Mr. Valenzuela’ s arrangements have been heard at the Texas Bandmaster’s Association Annual Conference, the Texas Music Educators Association Annual Convention, Kansas Music Educators Association, Bands of America regionals,  the UIL State Marching Contest and the Music Educators National Conference.  Mr. Valenzuela has been named several times to “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association. He was the recipient of the Grand National Adjudicators “Excellence in Teaching” Award in 2002 and 2003.  Mr. Valenzuela is looking forward to finishing out the spring semester and thrilled to be a part of Lobo Nation!
