As the spring semester arrives the band world actually gets even more busy than the fall. Here is a quick breakdown of what you can expect during the next few months.
UIL Solo & Ensemble: The Lobo Band students will attend Solo & Ensemble on February 3rd at Jack C. Hays High School. The students in the LHS Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony are required to attend while students from the Symphonic Winds, Concert Winds and Concert Band are encouraged to participate. The students will have two dates, scheduled prior to the event, where they will rehearse with their piano accompanist. We wish all of our students participating in Solo & Ensemble the very best of luck in their performanes.
Winter Guard: The Winter Guard season is in full swing. This year Lehman will have 3 competing groups. Mr. Fairbrother has designed 3 very impactful, entertaining and competitive shows for all of our guards. Please check the calendar for contest locations and dates! Good luck to all of our guards this season!
Indoor Drumline: This is the first year that Lehman HS will present an indoor competitive drumline. The group has already started learning drill and music and is off to an incredible start. First contest is February 3rd in Georgetown. See the calendar for future contests and rehearsals. We are looking forward to their first competitive season in the TECA Circuit. Pre-UIL Concert Band Festival: Lehman is the proud host of the Central Texas Pre-UIL Music Festival at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center. We currently have 23 bands participating in this two day event. The dates of the festival are March 28th and 29th. We will need
UIL Concert & Sightreading Evaluation: The UIL Concert and Sightreading events are almost here. Currently the Lehman HS Band is scheduled to have 5 different concert bands participate in UIL. This will be the most bands we have ever entered representing Lehman HS. UIL Concert and Sightreading is scheduled for April 3rd and 4th at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center. The Lehman Lobo Band is the host for this UIL event and will need parent volunteers. Please sign up to volunteer through Charms or the Lobo Band Calendar.
Lila Cockrell Theater Performance: The Lehman Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony will travel to San Antonio to perform in the Directors Choice Music Festival in San Antonio at the incredible Lila Cockrell Theater. The remaining members of the Lobo Band are welcome to attend this performance and then immediately travel to Fiesta Texas for an exciting day in the theme park followed by the Choice Music Festivals Awards Ceremony held at Fiesta Texas.
Band Banquet: This is our end of the year celebration!!! The Lobo Band Banquet is one of the most exciting and popular events every year. Last years attendance was over 330 and we expect it to be even larger this year! Save the date and location: May 19th, 2018 @ San Marcos Convention Center/Embassy Suites. Keep an eye out for ticket sales to start in April.
Spring “End of Year” Concert: The annual Spring Concert is our last musical “hoorah” for the year. All concert bands, jazz bands and possible even some of our percussion ensembles will be performing. Hays CISD PAC on May 18th!
MARCHING BAND: This never really ends! It is one giant circle, just to give you an idea as to how this works. We finished our marching season with the BOA Marching Festival on November 4th in San Antonio. However before the season had even ended we held a Show Design Meeting with the entire Marching Band Staff on October 25th to start the development of the 2018 Show. As you can tell from the overlap, Marching Season never ends! Please keep a close eye on the calendar for the numerous events related to Marching Band that will occur starting in April!
Texas State Solo & Ensemble Concerts: This event will be held at the University of Texas Campus in Austin. Any student that advances from the Solo and Ensemble Contest in February will perform. May 26th & 28th.
